Banana, Pecan, Date Shake

I made a creamy banana, pecan, date shake this morning! Dates are great in smoothies, but I used to always find chunks of it in the bottom of my glass. I’ve found that soaking the dates overnight to soften them removes all the chunks. You can use dates in any smoothie, but they’re great with pecans and bananas in this shake, accented by a bit of cinnamon. Give it a try:

Pecan, Banana, Date Shake
Serves 2-3

  • 1 1/2 oz California dates (chopped or whole and pitted)
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1 1/2 cups low-fat milk
  • 2 frozen bananas (in pieces)
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1/3 cup pecans
  • a few shakes of cinnamon plus extra for serving

The day before you want to make the shake, put the dates in the hot water and let them soak overnight. In the morning, blend the dates and date liquid, bananas, ice, pecans, and cinnamon until smooth and creamy. Pour into glasses and serve with a dash of cinnamon. Enjoy!
